B.Voc in Fashion Design

The Center for Vocational and Technical education of SNDTWU at Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic was established in 2017. The three year degree program in Fashion Design is starting with an intake of 30 students every year and a lateral entry to the diploma passed students to the second year. To start the degree program was the need of the hour in the field of Fashion Design. It will be a highly skilled training program with 5 semesters of teaching and one semester of internship. With emerging technology and trends in the field of Fashion, the department has prepared a technology based skill development curriculum to make the students eligible to the needs of the design Industry and work as professional Fashion Designer.

Intake – 30
Eligibility – 12th pass any stream or equivalent/ Vocational/ NSDC Certification/ Technical Diploma. Direct second year admission to 3 years diploma done from AICTE

Core Subjects

Basic Design, Drawing skills, Furniture and Accessory Design, Pattern making and construction, collection making, History of costume and textile, Marketing and Merchandising, IPR, Research projects, Fashion Show, Professional Practice etc

Special Features

This program is built to initiate a thoughtful and reactive design process. It facilitates the students to understand fashion through varied understandings of theory, practical skills, live projects, case studies, field trips and encounters with industries and professionals.. Guest lectures by Eminent Personalities like Nachiket Barve, Neeta Lulla, , Umesh Jivnani , Priyadarshini Rao, Aparna Badlani, Hash Gupta , Karan Berryetc.

The students are trained in representative skills through regular studios and a team of specialized Design Faculty that focus on freehand drawing, technical drawing and model making. The program aims at promoting a holistic approach to the designing process by simultaneously involving inputs from theory, allied subjects and electives into design.

The program enables the student to become an independent and effective learner and opens up a range of prospects on completion of the course. The industry offers opportunities to young designers in large set ups of fashion design, costume design, Visual Merchandising, Merchandising, Embroidery Designer, Production Manager, Stylist etc. Graduates are equipped to begin their own practice or further their education by applying to study in post-graduate programs.
